Red Rock Canyon - April 8, 1998

Expedition #2

We had 18 explorers this time led by our newest member, David Bert. We explored links to our cultural history through petroglyphs, pictographs and agave roasting pits. Starting before dawn, we watched as the sun painted the 3,000-foot limestone and sandstone cliffs. Below are a couple of images from our experience with more to come.

Brent Sweet takes a high perch at first light.

The sunlight warms Red Rock Canyon, causing the cliffs to glow.

Karen Lindstrom uses a Sony Mavica to capture images of pictographs on a cave wall.
