As the pictures illustrate, the diversity of life forms was so intense that the experts grabbed their books at every opportunity. We list below which volumes Jana and Isabelle carried in their backpacks.

The phrase Look it up! conjures up such indoor, library kinds of images. Being in the field grabbing reference works was an entirely different sensation.

Special thanks also goes to Tidelines, who published the handy $1.50 1998 Tide Calendar which enabled us to schedule our trip (and check out their Surfing Links). The fact that we were all set to go a week earlier when there was no negative tide was ignorant arrogance at its most comic.
